The quote if from 1967. It is incredibly acute, I wonder why I never heard about it before, but it is so very true. Again, my very opinion!!

Conway's Law
The structure of any system designed by an organization is isomorphic to the structure of the organization.
This is broadly reflected in the organizations which tend to be very static, even when there are changes apparently. Fundamentally very little changes.
If a car, for example, is composed of a body, an engine, an interior and and wheels (very very broadly), it is highly likely that the organization which design the car will have department to design the single systems.
In some cases, there is a lack of an integration function / office which drives the design - this today is represented by Systems Architects. In many organization this is becoming more and more important.
